Check out my interview with MeandHerafterKids as I ask Jerry, “Is a Pop Up Truck Camper the Best for Me?” Jerry has many years of experience with many types of RVs and he has a lot of great advice in this article and video.
Check out the YouTube video at the end of this article for more information.
Why Choose a Pop Up Truck Camper?
Currently, I use a 4-Season Canvas tent, that does well in cold weather here in Colorado, but I’m looking for more convenience and flexibility as Mika and I go on more outdoor adventures.
Mike started his research out focusing on travel trailers, then switched over to considering truck campers, but he is back to travel trailers now, with a focus on toy haulers.
I am not sold on travel trailers/toy haulers yet, as I believe that truck campers, with a small ATV trailer being pulled behind, is the best option for more rugged, off-road destinations.
After spending the day talking to Jerry, the truck camper option, whether it’s a pop up camper or a smaller hard shell camper, seems to be the way to go for me.
I would like to hear your thoughts on what you like or what works best, but especially with a focus on remote camping, and many times on challenging mountain roads.

There is so much more to talk about here but these are only a few thoughts from my conversation with Jerry this last weekend from MeandHerafterKids.
Final Thoughts
There will be no shortage of thoughts and opinions to what will work best for off-road, remote camping, and there are many more options if you have money to spend, but what about all of us that live on a budget, and still want to get outdoors to more remote areas?
This conversation is also complicated more if you want to pull an ATV. You can always choose a toy hauler, but there are issues with this as having an ATV in your trailer may give off fuel and oil smells, no matter how clean you keep your ATV.
You can always choose a trailer or motor home, but you will be limited from getting to more remote areas, especially on narrow, winding back roads.
Presently, I am of the opinion that the truck camper option with a small ATV trailer is the best option. All comments, thoughts and suggestions are welcome, so leave a comment below.
