Find the Right Camp Site

Many times it’s important to find trees you can lay down in between, depending on your height.

Gathering the Shelter Supplies

Next, it’s time to look around for the right size and length material for your shelter. In a real survival situation, live or dead trees isn’t a concern, but on camping trips or videos like this, it’s best to find dead timber for you supplies or firewood, as much as possible. If you can’t find dead trees, look for clumps of trees that will become more healthy when you thin them out. Trees will grow better when they are not fighting for sunlight.

Building the Bed

Finding the right campsite and trees from the comments above is the most important for your bed as you will see here.

Building the Survival Bed Off the Ground

It’s also best use natural material to help make your bed more comfortable.

Use branches or leaves to make your bed more soft

Build the Shelter Frame

Now it’s time to build the frame for your emergency shelter.

Put up the Walls & Roof

Finally, we’re almost done. It’s time to tie down the tarps to help keep the wind and rain off.

Tie Down the Tarps

Don’t forget to use rocks to help secure the tarp.

Build the Cooking Table

This part is optional, but it is always nice to have a table in your tent.

Find a flat rock or piece of wood.

Butchering the Wild Hog

This section is also optional. You can choose to bring your food with you, or you can find an animal to eat on your outdoor adventure. In a true survival situation, food, shelter and warmth will be of utmost importance.

First, you will need to gut and skin the animal. In this case, we only wanted the back strap and the hind quarters.

Gut and Skin the animal

We chose the two back straps to cut out first.

Next, go for both of the hind quarters.

Cut off the hog hind quarters

There are other pieces of meat you can go after but in the cases of these wild hogs, they are everywhere and becoming a real problem, so if you’re in a hurry, cut out the best pieces of meat and leave the rest for the scavengers.

I would recommend not skinning everything as that can help preserve the meat and keep flies off while you’re in the outdoors, as in this case where Mike only goes after the back strap and one hind quarter.

Skin the meat you want to eat

Building the Fire

Now it’s time to build your fire. Mike chose to use some rocks near the campsite for the fire pit, plus he was careful to get the fire close to the shelter, but not to close.

Build your campfire

The campfire may have been a higher priority if this were an actual emergency situation.

Making Dinner

Prepare your food

Hog Skewers Cooking over the Fire

Once the food is prepared, it was time for Mike to skewer the vegetables and hog meat.

Relaxing & Waiting to Eat

Finally, it was time to watch dinner cook and relax for the evening.
