Eleven Mile Canyon Mule Deer

Check out this video of the Eleven Mile Canyon Mule Deer. Here’s a herd of 10 or more mule deer in Eleven Mile Canyon, near Lake George, Colorado.

Eleven Mile Canyon Mule Deer

Ranger and I were driving up the Eleven Mile Canyon, when we came across this small herd of mule deer. They were all does and yearlings. Check out the video below.

The herd stayed pretty close to me for about 6 or 7 minutes, probably because I left Ranger in the truck.

One of the does kept going after other does and yearlings. I have seen several groups of does where one of the females keeps chasing other deer off.

Here are a few more photos below.

  1. Some stunning photographs and video of the Mule dear here. Are they unique to Colorado, as I don’t think I have seen them anywhere else?

They are so pretty and graceful. I loved watching the one trot elegantly across the road and run up the embankment like it was no effort at all. I see that some of them have definitely noticed you by the way that they are staring towards the camera. I wonder how many preditors they have to avoid in this area, as they don’t look very skittish at all.

    • I’m not sure how unique they are to Colorado. I believe they live from Northern New Mexico up into Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho and beyond, but that is a guess.

This area is within the Pikes National Forest so they can be hunted, however, I believe most hunters are going after the bucks. The bucks know it’s time to keep their heads, or racks, low.
