The ZOLEO satellite messenger is one of the latest devices to hit the market. It’s lightweight, compact, and has the best two-way messaging features of any satellite communicator, from my experience.

Two-Way Messaging
The most powerful feature of the ZOLEO satellite messenger is it’s ability to communicate efficiently. This satellite communicator will attempt to use wifi first, followed by your cell service and lastly satellite service. It seeks to use the least expensive method of communication.
In my opinion, this is the best and most powerful feature of the ZOLEO satellite communicator. If seamless messaging is a top priority for you, then this is your satellite messenger.
- Global satellite messaging: Stay connected beyond cell coverage, use ZOLEO with your smartphone to transmit text messages and e-mails over the Iridium satellite network, cellular or Wi-Fi using the lowest-cost network available (service plan required)
- Emergency SOS: Send an SOS alert with your GPS location to 24/7 emergency monitoring center if something goes wrong, or access Medical Assist for non-emergency help
- Dedicated SMS number: An assigned ZOLEO SMS number and email enables contacts to reach out directly when you're off the grid

Location Share+ and Tracking
This is another great feature of the ZOLEO satellite messenger. The Location Share+ feature will allow you and your contacts to see where you are on your adventure. See some examples below.
The Location Share+ is easy to access and convenient for your family and friends to use.
SOS and Other Features
You can see from the image above that the SOS button is easy to access, plus you can select the tracking button from the device itself, instead of from the ZOLEO app.
You may not be interested in the incredible 2-way message capabilities of the ZOLEO satellite messenger, but having it for the SOS life saving service is worth every penny.
Dark Sky Weather Forecasts
The Dark Sky weather forecasts is at the bottom center of the screen on the ZOLEO app. The weather forecast is delivered quickly and gives you a lot of great information at your fingertips.
Most of the time I don’t need a forecast as I typically go on day hikes, but there are times I’m thankful to have it.
Topo Maps
There is no icon to access the topo maps but you can access them through the Location Share+ message. It may not be convenient or intuitive on how to get there but the maps are excellent and offer a lot of information.
I would like to see ZOLEO add a map icon at the bottom of the app, next to the messaging and forecast, however, there is a quick work around to get to the maps.
Global Pole to Pole Satellite Coverage
ZOLEO uses the Iridium Satellite Network to provide global pole to pole satellite coverage anywhere in the world.
Not all satellite messengers offer global satellite coverage, but not so with ZOLEO. It’s assuring to know you don’t have to check your satellite coverage before you leave for your next adventure.
Final Thoughts
The ZOLEO is lightweight and compact and offers a wide range of features, with the best one being the seamless mobile coverage from wifi to cell service to satellite service.
If two-way communication is your top priority, then the ZOLEO satellite communicator is the one for you.
