Take a look at these tent camping accessories to see how I add simple things to my tent when camping, specifically so I can sleep more comfortably.
Cot
The camping cot I bought is incredible! It’s an REI Kingdom cot, but there is a similar cot you can get on Amazon called the Sierra 440 Cot. This cot is easy to transport, store and setup, but the most valuable thing about this cot is how well I sleep in it.
You can buy this directly from REI or you can by nearly the exact Sierra 440 cot on Amazon.

Here’s another great camping cot from Bass Pro.
3″ Memory Foam Pad
The cot is critical to make tent camping acceptable, but the 3″ memory foam pad is nearly as important and maybe the one thing that makes sleeping in the mountains nearly as good as sleeping at home.
This twin size Serta ThermaGel 3″ Memory Foam Mattress Topper fits perfectly on this cot and feels almost exactly like sleeping at home, especially after you put your sheets and blankets on it. The cot and the mattress pad act as insulators so I have never gotten cold while sleeping in the Rocky Mountains.

- ThermaGel particles help provide a cool, comfortable sleep surface
- Adapts and conforms to the individual contours of the body to provide enhanced support and comfort
- Enhances the sleep surface and extends the life of your mattress
- Made in the USA

Camp Chair
There are many camp chairs on the market but this Coleman chair has lasted me 15 to 20 years and is still holding up well.
It may not have a lot of additional cool features, but it does have two cup holders, it’s big enough, comfortable and durable.
- Coleman Cold – built-in 4-can cooler lets you grab a cold drink without getting up
- Mesh cup holder
- Fully cushioned seat and back
- Side pockets
- Strong steel frame
- Adjustable arm heights

In-Table
This camp folding in-table is perfect for keeping your tent organized, plus it helps it feel more like home when you can place things on it, such as lanterns, keys, etc. It really helps if you can sleep, sit and have things organized up off the ground.
I bought this folding table, probably 20 years ago, but here’s one identical to it on Amazon.
- [LIGHTWEIGHT, PORTABLE YET COMFORTABLE] – Great for camping, tailgates, sporting events, indoor use, BBQs & cookouts. Comfort rivals indoor easy chairs and sofas.
- [SMALL & LIGHTWEIGHT] – Easy to store, carry and haul. Features 2 cup holders.
- [HEAVY-DUTY SOLID CONSTRUCTION] – Heavy-duty steel frame construction with rugged 600D canvas fabric. Measures 19”L x 19”W x 18”H when setup (table top spans 24” diagonally).
- [EFFORTLESS SETUP] – Just pull it out of the bag and unfold it! Sets up in seconds!
- [LIFETIME USA SUPPORT] – Whether you’re under the stars surrounded by Joshua Trees, looking up at giant redwoods, on a Rocky Mountain High or under a Big Montana Sky; ARROWHEAD OUTDOOR is standing by in Atlanta, Georgia to help keep you adventuring.

Overhead Light
This Ozark Trail light is not expensive but make sure you have one or two of them. You can use them as an overhead light or a night light to place on your new folding in-table and it can help to make your camping experience enjoyable.
You can find it on Amazon here.

Great collection of tent camping accessories. My biggest issue with tent camping is that it’s hard to get comfortable enough to sleep, so I appreciate that comfort is high on your list of considerations for a solid quality cot. One thing I like to have with me is something to read. Do you think the light you recommend is bright enough to use for reading or would it be better to bring a kindle ereader?
I personally have an issue with electronic devices when camping so I would go with a real book and one of those lights that hook on to your book and can be bent to shine where you want it. I really wouldn’t want to read with the Ozark Trail camping light so I would find something else.
As far as sleeping though, I’m with you on finding what works for you and getting a good night sleep.
